Neil Mockford/GC ImagesPaul McCartney was in London on Monday to play an intimate show in front of a small invited audience at Abbey Road Studios, according to NME.com.

Before the gig, the rock legend was captured on video recreating the cover of The Beatles‘ 1969 album Abbey Road, which features a photo of Paul and his old band mates walking across the street in front of the studio’s entrance.

In the clip, which was posted on McCartney’s Instagram, a smiling Sir Paul walks across the famous intersection, as crowds who gathered for the show cheer wildly.  Unlike the original photo, though, Paul isn’t barefoot.

Paul offered fans a chance to attend the special gig by posting a message on his Instagram page and Twitter feed last Wednesday that read, “Why do you think you should attend a secret event in London with Paul next week? Post a short video using the hashtag #UnderTheStaircase.” NME reports that at the event, McCartney performed classic Beatles and solo songs, as well as deep cuts.

According to The Daily Mail, celebrities spotted at the event included Johnny Depp, Liv Tyler, Orlando Bloom and Kylie Minogue.

In other news, because a show that McCartney scheduled for December 5 at the Stadthalle in Vienna, Austria, sold out in just 20 minutes, a second show has been added at the venue on December 6.
