Courtesy of RolandThomas Dolby kicks off a U.S. summer tour this Wednesday with a sold-out club show in Los Angeles, and the next day he will take part in the first concert ever streamed live via Roland Cloud, a suite of cloud-based virtual synthesizers, sampled instruments and other software and services. The event will take place at 4 p.m. PT on July 26.

Dolby’s show will feature the innovative electronic artist using keyboards, a drum pad and a laptop computer running synthesizers from Roland Cloud. In conjunction with the show, Roland Cloud is offering online viewers a free 30-day trial of the service allowing them to try the same synthesizers and sounds Dolby will showcase in his concert.

As previously reported Dolby’s tour, which is dubbed “An Evening of Music and Storytelling with Thomas Dolby,” is mapped out through an August 8 show in Baltimore. The intimate performances will be multimedia events where Thomas will demonstrate — with a laptop, keyboards and a projection screen — how he created various songs. Dolby also will invite audience members to randomly choose songs from his catalog for him to perform.

One concert during the trek, a July 27 event at the Microsoft Theater in L.A., will feature Dolby as part of a star-studded ’80s-themed bill that also includes Blondie, Adam Ant, Soft Cell‘s Marc Almond and Berlin. That same day, a two-CD Dolby career compilation titled Hyperactive will be released.
