Cleopatra RecordsThe current Guess Who lineup will release a new studio album titled The Future IS What It Used to Be on September 14.

The band is led by founding drummer Garry Peterson, and also features journeyman bassist Rudy Sarzo, who’s previously played with Quiet Riot, Ozzy Osbourne, Whitesnake, Blue Öyster Cult and other groups.

The album features guest appearances from original Guess Who bassist Jim Kale, Styx‘s Tommy Shaw, Whitesnake bassist Michael Devlin and Slash drummer Brent Fitz. A lead single from the record, “Playin’ on the Radio,” was recently released, and an accompanying video for the tune has premiered on YouTube.

“The song is a celebration of the radio and what it meant to us all.” says Guess Who singer Derek Sharp, a.k.a. D# (pr: Dee Sharp). “Whenever a new great song hit the airwaves, the DJ would say a few words, then off to the races! You’d tune in just to hear it over and over again. The character in the song could be any one of us as we move ahead in life.”

Meanwhile, Peterson says of the new album, “I never dreamed that I would get a chance to record an album, after 40 years, in the same way, and with the same recording gear that we used in the ’60s and ’70s. This was truly a blessing for me and a humbling, cathartic experience for my musical soul.”

The Future IS What It Used to Be is available for pre-order now on CD, red or black vinyl and as a digital download. The Guess Who also has launched a PledgeMusic page offering signed copies of the album, autographed memorabilia and a variety of merch items.
