Concord RecordsBurt Bacharach and Carole King have both lent their talents to an upcoming album by another legendary songwriter, Elvis Costello, whose latest studio effort, Look Now, will be released on October 12.
Bacharach, who previously worked with Costello on the 1998 collaborative album Painted from Memory, co-wrote two songs on Look Now, “Don’t Look Now” and “Photographs Can Lie,” and also played piano on the tunes. King teamed up with Costello to pen tune titled “Burnt Sugar Is So Bitter.”
Costello recorded Look Now with his longtime backing group The Imposters, marking the first project he’s made with the band since 2008’s Momofuku.
Elvis says he looked to Painted from Memory and another of his critically acclaimed earlier albums as inspiration for Look Now.
“I knew if we could make an album with the scope of [1986’s] Imperial Bedroom and some of the beauty and emotion of Painted from Memory, we would really have something,” he maintains.
The standard version of Look Now features 12 songs, while a deluxe edition includes an additional four bonus tracks.
Fans pre-ordering digital versions of Look Now will immediately receive digital downloads of two of the album’s tracks — “Under Lime” and “Unwanted Number.” You can check out a lyrics video for “Unwanted Number” at Elvis’ official YouTube channel.
News of Look Now comes shortly after Costello revealed that he’d undergone surgery to treat an aggressive form of cancer, which forced him to cancel a summer tour. Elvis is slated to return to the road for fall North American tour with The Imposters that kicks off November 2 in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania.
