CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (AP) _ The treasurer of a southeast Missouri dog rescue
group has been charged with embezzling more than $120,000 from the nonprofit.
The Southeast Missourian reports police are seeking the public’s help in
finding 40-year-old Elizabeth Hann, who is wanted on two counts of felony
stealing. An arrest warrant was issued Tuesday.
Cape Girardeau police said in a news release she is accused of embezzling
from Mac’s Mission, a state licensed rescue group specializing in animals with
special needs.
Mac’s Mission director Rochelle Steffen says the theft was discovered in
October. The probable cause statement says Hann made 89 unauthorized
withdrawals, totaling about $121,000, from Mac’s Mission Charity Foundation’s
bank account starting in November 2016. Fellow charity workers told authorities
Hann regularly frequented casinos in Cape Girardeau and St. Charles.
