The City of Lakeview is gearing up for its Celebrate Lakeview Festival set for September 29th from 10:00 until 4:00 at the Llyod Travis Municipal Center and city park.
Mayor Dennis Behling told KTLO, Classic Hits and The Boot news in March the city council was in the process of establishing a celebrate Lakeview Committee in preparation for the upcoming festival. The featured activity will be the rededication of the freedom bell.
In 1980, a group of citizens purchased a bell and mounted it on a brick pedestal at the community center in Lakeview. The bell was dedicated with a message on the pedestal reading, “Liberty Freedom Bell: purchased and built through the effort of the free society to stand as a symbol of a free country,” in 1982.
This past summer, the bell was relocated and placed on a new pedestal in Lakeview City Park so more people could view and enjoy it and because the old pedestal was deteriorating.
The celebration will be a picnic-type, family event with music, drinks, food and craft vendors.
Additionally, there will be a 5K challenge run and family run and walk; various children’s activities, including worm races and animal track identification; and several educational and community non-profit organizations.
Festival organizers are accepting applications for crafters, vendors, exhibitors and artists. Those wishing to sign-up should contact Grace Haggart at 870-431-5251. Vendor forms and more information can be found online at www.facebook.com/lakeview.arkansas.
