Harry delivers a slightly profane spoken-word segment in the middle of the funky track that recalls her group’s chart-topping 1981 hit, “Rapture.”
“Harass your a**, if you let me/ Harass your a**, if you let me,” she declares. “Say ‘yes,’ if you let me/ Say ‘yes,’ if you let me.”
“Soul Train” was released as a digital single on Friday, and a video for the track premiered on VMagazine.com and YouTube the same day. The clip features retro ’70s-style animation depicting Harry and Just Loud engaged in a high-speed chase through a futuristic urban landscape.
“Glad to be doing a little bit on [Just Loud’s] latest single ‘Soul Train,” Harry says in a statement. “I actually performed on the TV show of the same name. I hope you all like the song.”
Meanwhile, Just Loud tells V magazine about his new tune, “It’s time to bring the funk back and ‘Soul Train’ is the song to do that! Debbie Harry is the conductor on this train, and it’s an honor to have her.”
The song will be featured on Just Loud’s self-titled debut album, due out November 16. Fans pre-ordering the record will receive a free instant download of “Soul Train” and another tune.
