
The Baxter County Airport in Midway and Marion County Airport at Flippin are among 37 airports in Arkansas to receive federal funding to make improvements. It was announced Monday the Federal Aviation Administration is awarding $9.64 million in airport infrastructure grants to airports across the state.
The Baxter County Airport is receiving $199,006 to install a taxiway lighting system.
The Marion County Airport at Flippin is getting $112,500 to rehabilitate a runway and for wildlife hazard assessments.
In Melbourne, the Izard County Airport at John E. Miller Field received $126,000 for rehabilitation of a runway and apron.
The Boone County Airport in Harrison is receiving $28,500 to rehabilitate a runway and apron.
The Sharp County Airport at Ash Flat got the most money of the airports in North Central Arkansas with $249,255 to install a runway vertical/visual guidance system and a taxiway lighting system.
The largest grant in Arkansas went to the Bill and Hillary Clinton National Airport in Little Rock which was for over $3.2 million for multiple projects.
The grants are part of $3.18 billion in Airport Improvement Program (AIP) funding this year for projects across the nation. Airports receive a certain amount of AIP entitlement funding each year based on activity levels and project needs.
