A broken, cracked spot on the windshield of a vehicle directly in front of the driver caught the attention of an Arkansas State Police trooper July 20th in Marion County. The trooper’s traffic stop led to the arrest of two men with criminal records.
According to the probable cause affidavit filed Thursday, the traffic stop occurred on State Highway 202 west of the quarry.
The driver of the vehicle immediately informed the officer he did not have a driver’s license, but presented an identification. The driver was identified as 35-year-old Bryan Sutterfield of Mountain Home. His passenger advised he did not have a driver’s license or any identification and said his name was Nick Vetor.
Sutterfield was found to be a parolee with an active search waiver. Under the passenger side floormat of the vehicle he was driving the officer found digital scales with white crystalline residue later field testing positive for methamphetamine. In the passenger glovebox, the trooper located a .357 revolver.
During the search, the passenger, later identified as 40-year-old Michael Vetor of Melbourne, said he suffered from seizures and was about to have one. An ambulance was called to the scene.
A search of the Arkansas Crime Information Center database indicated Vetor had a warrant from the Arkansas Board of Parole and a warrant from the Marion County Sheriff’s Office for residential burglary and theft of property.
The trooper accompanied Vetor to Baxter Regional Medical Center, where he was found to have no medical conditions and was discharged from the hospital.
Vetor was transported to the Baxter County Detention Center. He has been charged with felony counts of possession of firearms by certain persons, meaning he is a convicted felon, and possession of drug paraphernalia, along with a misdemeanor charge of obstructing government operations for providing a false name.
His bond was set at $5,000.
In June, a continuance was granted in Vetor’s case involving felony counts of residential burglary and theft of property.
According to the probable cause affidavit, the charges against Vetor stem from an incident in February 2016 in which he is alleged to have taken a rifle from a Marion County residence. The incident reportedly occurred while Vetor distracted the juvenile son of the resident of the home, allowing his female companion to enter the residence and take the weapon.
The following morning in a cell phone conversation, Vetor is alleged to have admitting taking the gun to pay a debt.
Vetor was interviewed in March in the Baxter County Detention Center, as we awaited extradition for an outstanding warrant in Wisconsin. At that time, the female had not been located.
The affidavit noted the two have extensive criminal histories reflecting charges of probation violations, failure to appear, failure to pay fines, criminal trespass, possession of a controlled substance, third degree battery, breaking and entering, theft of property, and fleeing at both misdemeanor and felony levels.
