
Area schools are buzzing as they prepare to welcome back students for the 2018-2019 school year, including those in Cotter.
According to the Superintendent of the Cotter School District, safety and security are top priorities for the district for the 2018-2019 school year, with many new changes being made, including a new entry system.

Additional changes to security include magnetic locking systems on all exterior doors; additional lighting and surveillance cameras on building exteriors across the campus; photo IDs for students, faculty and staff; a permanent student resource officer (SRO) and an additional officer working on a part-time basis.
Thomas-Jones says in addition to new safety measures, the district also has number of new programs this year, including Project Lead The Way.

Additional new programs include free breakfast and lunch for all students, regardless of income, and the possible construction of a FEMA-funded saferoom to benefit the school district and surrounding community.
Thomas-Jones says she hopes to provide a positive experience for students and their guardians for the 2018-2019 school year.
