NORTH LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) _ North Little Rock officials say Amazon is
planning to open its first Arkansas distribution center in the city.
Mayor Joe Smith tells the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette the tech giant will
open a “new concept” distribution center that will create up to 100 local jobs
in his city by this fall.
Planning Commission Chairman Norman Clifton owns the more than 4-acre (1.6-hectare) North Little Rock property the company wants to use for its center. The City Council gave approval Monday to rezone Clifton’s property to an
industrial classification for the planned warehouse.
Clifton says the project will be Amazon’s first distribution center in the
state. He says the company has proposed a 1.5-year lease with an option for an
additional two years.
An Amazon spokesman declined to comment on the project.
