A 5-year-old special needs boy was discovered facedown in a neighbor’s swimming pool about 8:00 Thursday evening. Mountain Home Police Lieutenant Sergeant Eddie Griffin says after being taken to Baxter Regional Medical Center, the boy was taken to Children’s Hospital in Little Rock for precautionary measures. The incident Friday evening was the second in just over 12 hours where neighbors had found the autistic child outside his home.Lieutenant Griffin says the first incident occurred Thursday morning about 7:20 when a neighbor found the child on McClure Lane, a couple of houses down the street from his home. His mother, 26-year-old Meaghan Reed, was reportedly asleep at the time. Reed was cited with a misdemeanor count of endangering the welfare of a minor.

The second incident occurred Thursday evening when Mountain Home Police were contacted and advised the 5-year-old was missing. Within minutes, a neighbor on Duncan Street discovered the child facedown in a pool. Law enforcement canvassing the neighborhood assisted the woman within minutes and found the child’s pulse, and he was reportedly choking.

Griffin says the incident remains under investigation, and there is a potential for additional charges. Department of Human Services representatives were contacted in both incidents.
