UPDATE: Races form on final filing day

A second council race developed in Mountain Home Friday morning in the final hours prior to the closing of the filing period for nonpartisan municipal-level filings.

Calvin “Clint” Czeschin filed for the Ward 2, Position 1 seat now held by Jennifer Baker.

The first race on the Mountain Home City Council developed earlier in the filing period for the Ward 1, Position 1 seat between incumbent Carl Graves and challenger Bob “DJ Peace” Van Haaren.

A three-way race for the mayor’s seat developed early in the filing period among retired postmaster Hillrey Adams and council members Dave Almon and Nancy Osmon. Mayor Joe Dillard announced earlier this year he would not be seeking re-election.

At Cotter, a number of races have developed, including the mayor’s position.

Friday morning both McGeorge “Mac” Caradine and Roland Morris filed for the Cotter mayor’s seat now held by Peggy Hammack. Mayor Hammack did not file for re-election and had made no prior announcement of her intentions.

Caradine had previously filed for a council position at Cotter.

Also at Cotter, four council seats are being contested.

Nathan Buck and Carolyn Gill are seeking the Ward 1, Position 1 seat. Buck holds the Ward 1, Position 2 seat.

Charles “Chuck” Sugg has filed for  Ward 2, Position 1. Thurman J. Williams also filed for this seat.

Incumbent John Bell and challenger Schuyler Brower are seeking the Ward 2, Position 2 seat at Cotter.

Wayne Alexander filed Friday morning for the Ward 3, Position 1, with Richard Gipson filing previously for the seat. Alexander hold the Ward 3, Position 2 seat.

Also filing Friday were Thom Embach for the Ward 1, Position 2 seat at Gassville, incumbent Norfork City Council member Don Sappington for the Ward 1, Position 1 seat, and Shawn Shelton for Position 3 on the Big Flat City Council.

In Marion County, Bull Shoals City Council incumbent Alan Graley filed for re-election.

In Pyatt, Mayor Ken Hancock has filed for re-election, along with incumbent council members Billy Harris and Wendy Nelson.
