The clip for “You and Me (Clubhouse Version)” was created by mixing fan-submitted videos and photos with archival performance footage and home movies of Petty, as well as new video of The Heartbreakers’ Benmont Tench playing piano in the band’s rehearsal studio. The video was directed by Tom’s daughter Adria, who also helped curate An American Treasure along with Tench, Heartbreakers guitarist Mike Campbell and Petty’s widow, Dana.
The interesting fan-submitted content seen in the video includes film clips from various concerts and photos of fans wearing Petty t-shirts and jackets; Petty-themed tattoos and license plates; autographed memorabilia and albums; and ticket stubs.
The original rendition of “You and Me” appeared on Petty and the Heartbreakers’ 2002 studio album, The Last DJ. The “Clubhouse Version” of the song was recorded in November of 2007. Fans who pre-order the box set digitally will immediately receive of free download of “You and Me (Clubhouse Version)” along with the previously released track “Keep a Little Soul.” “You and Me (Clubhouse Version)” also is now available for purchase as a digital single and via streaming services.
