NIANGUA, Mo. (AP) _ A Missouri couple is facing felony charges of animal abuse after authorities say they found more than a dozen neglected dogs on their property.

The Springfield News-Leader reports 79-year-old William Kellogg and 70-year-old Mary Kellogg were charged Friday.

Court documents say a neighbor accused the Niangua couple last year of inadequately caring for more than 40 dogs. A probable cause statement says law enforcement last year found the Kelloggs “exhibited consistent and willful neglect and abuse” to the animals.

The statement says the couple failed to feed the dogs, didn’t provide them timely veterinary care and left them chained to trees without shelter.

Court documents indicate that the Kelloggs were previously convicted of animal cruelty in 1994 in Montana.

No attorneys are listed for the Kelloggs.
