A fire at the Norfork School District campus caused damage to the high school principal’s office and a few classrooms in the front of the high school building. According to Norfork Fire Chief Frankie Baker, the fire occurred at approximately 7:00 Sunday evening after an electrical panel box next to the principal’s office reportedly short-circuited and overheated.

Norfork School Superintendent Mike Seay told KTLO, Classic Hits and The Boot News Monday afternoon Norfork girls’ basketball coach Josh Laymon was working when the fire occurred.

Seay says there is currently no estimate on the cost of the damage. He says the district was fortunate the damage wasn’t more widespread, and Coach Laymon was able to get the fire contained to just a few classrooms and the principal’s office.

While classes remained in session Monday, Seay says the classes affected by the fire were able to move to other rooms.

Chief Baker says the Norfork Fire Department was assisted on the scene by the Rodney-Jordan Fire Department. Fire personnel from Salesville and Lone Rock were also on their way, but they were called off before they arrived. Crews were on the scene approximately two to three hours.
