Now, a new poll reveals that multi-talented entertainer is the female artist who people would most like to see inducted into the Hall.
The awards-centric website GoldDerby.com asked fans to choose between 12 female artists, all of whom have been eligible for the Rock Hall for years, but who have been criminally overlooked. Over 900 people worldwide voted, and Cher ran away with the poll, earning 50 percent of the votes. The only other artist who received double digit votes was Cyndi Lauper, with 28 percent. Cher has been eligible for induction into the Hall since 1990; Cyndi since 2008.
The nominees for induction in 2019 will be announced this fall, and Cher might have a chance, since she’s top of mind. This year, she’s starred in the film Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again, she has her life story coming to Broadway, she has a new album of ABBA covers due in September, and she’ll receive the Kennedy Center Honors in December.
Here are the rest of the female artists in the poll, along with the percentage of votes they received:
Whitney Houston (5%) — eligible since 2009
Tina Turner (5%) — inducted with Ike Turner in 1991, eligible as a solo artist since 1998
