A Harrison man, 22-year-old Robert Mitchell, has been arrested after allegedly breaking into an occupied residence over the weekend. But, Harrison Police Chief Paul Woodruff says Mitchell also faces more charges from an arrest warrant. The Harrison Daily Times reports Woodruff says residents in the area of Shamrock Street, where Mitchell lived, had been complaining of a possible peeping Tom for some time, even a naked man wandering the neighborhood. In one case, a woman reported her daughter saw a flash of light, such as from a camera, outside her bedroom window.

In that case, Woodruff says, Mitchell’s driver’s license was found in the woman’s yard.

An investigation was initiated and detectives interviewed Mitchell. Woodruff says Mitchell did admit to looking in some people’s windows and taking pictures, although no nude photos.

Detectives then applied for an arrest warrant, they recently received.

But, about 9:00 Saturday morning, a man and woman reported the woman was awakened during the night by the bed shaking. Woodruff says the woman awoke to find a naked black man shaking the bed. He had also apparently pulled the bed covers off the woman as she slept.

The couple chased the subject out of the house, but they also found a set of car keys he apparently had left behind. They also reported the suspect had taken the woman’s cell phone.

Police allege Mitchell made entry to the residence by removing a window screen.

Detectives were again called to work the scene and collected evidence. Woodruff says they also took the keys to Mitchell’s place of employment and found his car there. The keys worked on the vehicle.

Mitchell was taken into custody on probable cause for residential burglary, theft of property and voyeurism with bond set at $100,000.

Woodruff says police found it “alarming and dangerous” Mitchell had escalated from watching through people’s windows to actually breaking into an occupied residence, which led to the high bond amount.
