
Bill Pugliano/Getty ImagesFriday’s funeral for the Aretha Franklin will be private, but if you didn’t receive an invitation, don’t worry: It’ll be broadcast live on television and streamed online.
Fox News and CNN will air portions of the service nationally, according to the Detroit Free Press. The homegoing service will be streamed by the Associated Press and available via numerous media outlets around the world.
As previously reported, former President Bill Clinton, Rev. Jesse Jackson, Rev. Al Sharpton, Smokey Robinson and Cicely Tyson will be among the speakers at the service, which will begin at 10 a.m. ET. at the Greater Grace Temple in Detroit.
The list of speakers also includes Sony Music Entertainment Chief Creative Officer Clive Davis, Bishop T.D. Jakes, former U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder, Michigan Governor Rick Snyder and Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan.
Stevie Wonder, Ronald Isley, Chaka Khan, Jennifer Hudson and Fantasia lead the list of performers.
Yolanda Adams, Pastor Shirley Caesar, The Clark Sisters, Jennifer Holliday, Tasha Cobbs-Leonard, Bishop Marvin Sapp, Vanessa Bell Armstrong, Aretha’s son Edward Franklin, the Aretha Franklin Orchestra and the Aretha Franklin Celebration Choir also will sing in tribute to the late Queen of Soul.
Ahead of the private “Celebration of Life,” there will be three public viewings, also in the Motor City: today and Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. at the Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History, and Thursday, August 30, from noon to 4 p.m. at the New Bethel Baptist Church.
Aretha Franklin died August 16 at her home in Detroit from pancreatic cancer. She was 76.
