Two Marion County residents, 28-year-old Coltin King of Yellville and 53-year-old John Cox of Flippin, have been arrested and charged in connection with a vehicle reported stolen in Tennessee.

According to the probable cause affidavits, the Baxter County Sheriff’s Office was advised Wednesday a vehicle reported stolen in Tennessee was being operated in the Cotter/Gassville area. Information indicated the vehicle was allegedly hand-painted white and was originally red in color.

Sheriff’s officers made contact with the vehicle in the 1000 block of Harding Boulevard in Cotter. They observed the vehicle pull into the parking lot of a nearby convenience store with four individuals inside the pickup.

Officers noted it was immediately visible white paint had been applied to the vehicle originally red in color. In addition, the steering column had been removed. Multiple wires were observed attached to other wires in the steering column. They also observed the ignition had been removed from the column and was on the front driver’s floorboard. The vehicle had been extensively non-conventionally wired until the engine could only be shut off by disconnecting the main fuse.

Cox was identified as the driver of the vehicle, with King the front passenger. The two told officers they had borrowed the vehicle from an individual in Mississippi, with each giving different names for the owner of the vehicle. The affidavit also notes a Mississippi address for King.

Cox told the officers he was not aware the vehicle was originally red in color, despite a full red painted door on the interior side of the pickup and red color where the driver’s side mirror had been removed.

The two are charged with felony counts of theft by receiving, with bonds set at $15,000. Online records with the Baxter County Detention Center also show Cox being charged with driving on a suspended vehicle license.
