MHJH cross country teams do well at Batesville

The Mountain Home Junior High cross country teams fared well Thursday in their first race of the year at Lyon College in Batesville.

The Junior Bombers won the race with three runners in the top four. Mountain Home finished with 42 points to easily outdistance second place Valley View who had 99 points. Mountain Home had to come back in the second half of the course after trailing by 15 seconds halfway through.

Mountain Home was led by Andrew Westphal who was the race winner, while Ky Bickford was third and Hendrix Hughes finished fourth. Xander Towne was 18th and Isaiah Kemp finished 22nd.

The Junior Lady Bombers finished fourth as a team. Melbourne won the event with 26 points. The Junior Lady Bombers were led by Rylee Patterson who finished second. Britney Jenkins was 28th, Emily Goettler was 42nd, Katie VanTine finished 43rd and Kelsey Roach finished out the scoring.

Melbourne’s Kenly McCarn won the race and Kaitlyn McCarn was third. Salem’s Paisley Hightower was fourth.

The Mountain Home Junior High cross country teams run again next Thursday at Melbourne.
