LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) _ Arkansas Governor Asa Hutchinson says state agencies and subcommittees have recommended over 800 state rules and regulations to the legislature for repeal.
In a press conference Wednesday, Hutchinson, a Republican, said that number represented nearly a quarter of all the rules and regulations of the state’s various agencies.
Hutchinson says many of these rules are outdated and cumbersome.
State Sen. Jim Hendren, also a Republican, said small businesses will find it easier to comply with state regulations when there are fewer rules to review.
Last year, the legislature required all state agencies to review their rules and report which ones they no longer intended to enforce. Those reports will now be reviewed by the legislature, which will make its final recommendations by the end of the year.
