SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (AP) _ A 22-year-old Springfield man has pleaded guilty to two counts of second-degree murder for fatally shooting a pregnant woman.

The Springfield News-Leader reports 22-year-old Joseph Slagley pleaded Friday in the July 2017 shooting of 36-year-old Misty Hill.

Court documents indicate Slagley was intervening in an altercation outside a Springfield house where a man sprayed his father with mace then got in a car to leave. Slagley shot several times at the car and hit Hill, who was a passenger in the car. Authorities say Slagley didn’t intend to shoot Hill, whose unborn child also died.

Slagley also pleaded guilty Friday to statutory rape and child molestation in an unrelated case.

Prosecutors say Slagley will be sentenced to a total of 30 years in prison for pleading guilty in the two cases
