Two additional people have been identified in a case where Newton County sheriff’s deputies discovered an 8-year-old boy in Deer when they found four adults with illegal drugs last month.
According to a probable cause affidavit filed Friday, 24-year-old Carl Joseph Crawford of Paris has been charged with felony counts of simultaneous possession of drugs and firearms, possession of methamphetamine with intent to deliver and drug paraphernalia, as well as a misdemeanor count of endangering the welfare of a minor.
In addition, 24-year-old Summer Williams of Blue Mountain has been charged with a felony count of possession of methamphetamine, as well as a misdemeanor count of endangering the welfare of a minor.
The two are alleged to have been selling narcotics in Logan County, where law enforcement has made drug purchases from them.
The arrests followed law enforcement performing a check of the Alum Cove Trail Head in Deer.
Upon arrival, officers recognized the boy standing at the driver’s door of one of two parked vehicles. The rear passenger door of one of the vehicles was open, with law enforcement reporting legs sticking out.
As one of the deputies approached the passenger side of the vehicle to check on the occupants, he reported observing a baggie of suspected methamphetamine in plain view in the center console. Williams was a front passenger in the vehicle driven by Crawford and reportedly handed the baggie to the deputy.
The other two passengers, 24-year-old Issiah Keith Nichols of Ozark and 30-year-old Jimmie Roy Lee Dotson of Pelsor, were both charged with possession of a controlled substance methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia, along with misdemeanor counts of second-degree endangering the welfare of a minor.
When Dotson stepped out of the vehicle, a hypodermic needle allegedly fell from his lap.
A search of the vehicle the four individuals were in revealed an uncapped hypodermic needle containing suspected methamphetamine and a bloody substance in the rear area where Nichols and Dotson had been sitting. Drug paraphernalia was located in the rear flood board.
Officers also located a loaded .9mm handgun under the driver’s seat.
The boy told officers his mother had left him at the location with her vehicle while she left with a friend.
Crawford’s bond was set at $35,000, while Williams’ was set at $15,000.
