Diamond, who was one of the evening’s honorees, teamed up with Dolenz for a rendition of the Neil-penned Monkees smash “I’m a Believer.”
The Grammy Salute to Music Legends, which celebrates the Recording Academy’s 2018 Special Merit Awards winners, took place July 14 at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles. The annual gala features performances and tributes to this year’s Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award, Trustees Award and Technical Grammy Award honorees.
As previously reported, the 2018 Lifetime Achievement Award honorees included Diamond, Queen, Tina Turner, country-folk great Emmylou Harris, New Orleans funk group The Meters, renowned studio drummer Hal Blaine and pioneering swing-era bandleader Louis Jordan; while this year’s Trustees Award recipients were late concert promoter Bill Graham, Sire Records founder Seymour Stein and acclaimed film composer and conductor John Williams.
In addition to Diamond and Dolenz, the special features performances by ex-Van Halen band mates Sammy Hagar and Michael Anthony, Herb Alpert, Harris, The Meters, country singer Trisha Yearwood and others.
