An inmate in the Marion County Detention Center, 33-year-old Jarrad Kingbird of Yellville, was treated at North Arkansas Medical Center in Harrison for injuries to his hands after he reportedly struck doors and a window in the jail nearly 95 times.
According to the probable cause affidavit filed Tuesday afternoon, Kingbird was injured on the evening of August 25th, after he reportedly became irate when attempts were made to move him into a different cell. He reportedly barricaded himself in a cell using a floor cot.
Kingbird is alleged to have violently kicked the door of his cell, while yelling loudly. An officer convinced Kingbird to step away from the door, gather his belongings, and move them to the day room. The Yellville man then began to threaten to assault other inmates housed in the day room, while telling one officer he had better keep his Taser charged because he would need it for the upcoming fight.
Once inside the day room, Kingbird entered into a rage and began to scream, yell, punch, and kick the interior door of the day room, the window to the dispatch area, and the door to the visitation room. He allegedly struck both day room doors, and the window to the dispatch office approximately 95 times during the course of his second outburst.
During the course of a 911 call, a dispatcher was unable to hear the caller or to communicate over the radio due to the volume and length of Kingbird’s outburst.
Jailers and deputies made preparations to make entry into the day room and remove Kingbird for placement into the emergency restraint chair. He then advanced towards the doorway of the cell with his hands balled into fists and raised towards law enforcement.
Kingbird told officers he believed he was being treated unfairly due to an incident in the jail earlier in the day. He said he believed he had injured his hand while striking the door. Upon further evaluation of Kingbird’s injured left hand, officers determined he should receive immediate medical evaluation/treatment and was transported to the Harrison medical facility.
Kingbird has been charged with a felony count of impairing operation of a vital public facility, as well as misdemeanor counts of interference with emergency communication, obstructing governmental operations and disorderly conduct.
Bond for the charges was set at $2,500.
Kingbird was one of four inmates in the Marion County Detention Center charged with offenses related to a small fire in their cell on August 11th. The four were all charged with felony counts of furnishing prohibited articles, along with misdemeanor counts of obstructing government operations. Their bonds were set at $10,000.
