Machado CicalaIn her new video for her version of ABBA’s classic hit “S.O.S,” Cher‘s taken the song’s original message of a woman asking for a man to save her with his love and turned into into a message of female empowerment.

Cher herself doesn’t appear in the video, though.  Instead, we see a young African-American girl lying on a bed, obviously upset and depressed.  Then we see a chorus of women of all ages and races lip-syncing the song while dressed in a variety of retro-style outfits.  Wherever the sad young girl goes, she’s startled to see different groups of women singing the song and reaching out their hands to help her.

Toward the end of the song, the sad girl rushes into the arms of one of the women and smiles for the first time.  Then all the other women gather around for a giant group hug.

According to Jezebel, among the actresses and models who appear in the video are Australian pop star Betty Who, Bruce Willis and Demi Moore‘s daughter Rumer Willis, and actress Aimee Carrero.

“S.O.S.” is from Dancing Queen, Cher’s upcoming album of ABBA covers due out September 28.  She’ll kick off her Here We Go Again tour in support of the album on Valentine’s Day 2019.
