Rhino RecordsAfter more than 50 years, the Monkees will finally release a holiday album.
Called Christmas Party, the collection will not only feature the voices of the surviving three members — Micky Dolenz, Peter Tork and Michael Nesmith — but in a miracle of technology, the late Davy Jones as well. A statement from Rhino Records reveals that two songs, “Silver Bells” and “Mele Kalikimaka,” were produced “using classic Davy Jones vocals from the archives combined with newly recorded music.”
Christmas Party will also feature guest spots from some impressive guests: Peter Buck of R.E.M. and The Minus 5‘s Scott McCaughey play on two songs including the title track, which they wrote together.
XTC‘s Andy Partridge and Weezer‘s Rivers Cuomo also each wrote a song; Monkees fans will remember that Cuomo also wrote a song called “She Makes Me Laugh” for the group two years ago, for their album Good Times!
Christmas Party hits stores and digital outlets on October 12. Here’s the track listing:
