A Sharp County man, 61-year-old Dennie Slade of Evening Shade, has been charged with a felony count of theft of property in connection with the theft of a truck from a barn in Bull Shoals.
According to the probable cause affidavit filed Wednesday, the truck was reported missing on August 31st from the barn located at State Highway 178 and Summit Street. The victim told law enforcement he went to check on the vehicle after being notified by a friend he believed he had seen the truck being towed by an unknown subject in Gassville.
The victim produced a memory card from his game camera placed on the property in Bull Shoals. The footage revealed an unidentified white male walking around the property on August 22nd and then leaving. About three hours later, the camera catches the same subject returning to the property and leaving a second time.
On August 31st, footage from the game camera shows the man return to the property for a third time shortly before 4:00 a.m. About two hours later, video reveals the man’s vehicle leaving the property towing the stolen truck. Before leaving the scene, the suspect, later identified as Slade, cleaned the bed of the truck and dumped all the paperwork in the vehicle.
Several leads were developed in the case, leading a Bull Shoals police officer to a city business September 18th where Slade reportedly had been seen numerous times since the reported theft. The officer observed Slade enter the business and conducted a traffic stop when he exited a convenience store a short while later.
Slade reportedly agreed to follow law enforcement voluntarily to the Bull Shoals Police Department where he freely admitted to taking the vehicle.
The Sharp County man also faces a misdemeanor charge of criminal trespassing on posted land outside city limits.
His bond was set at $2,500.
