As the Mountain Home Education Foundation Night draws closer to its Night of Honors, several guests of honor will be recognized. One of the Hall of Honor’s Class of 2018 inductees will be former Mountain Home High School, Pinkston Middle School, Hackler Intermediate School and Nelson-Wilks-Herron Elementary School teacher Glenda Small.

Small says she was surprised when she learned she was going to be one of the guests of honor.

Small says one constant she would encounter when she moved up different grade levels is administrators telling her she couldn’t hug her students as often as she did in the lower grades, and she found that hard to accomplish.

One sense of pride Small says she has is to see what the kids she taught have grown up to be.

Small’s retirement came as a result of the illness of her mother who died nearly a month later. Since then, she has served as a mentor at Guy Berry College and Career Academy, and she has also been known to serve as a photographer for several events in the Mountain Home School District.
