A Benton County man, 31-year-old Cody Haynes of Lowell, has been arrested and charged in connection with an incident in which significant damage was reported to a room at a Bull Shoals resort. Items were also reportedly taken from the room.
According to the affidavit filed Friday, Haynes checked into the resort in mid April. He told the attendant he did not have a credit card and would be paying cash for his stay.
Other resort guests reported observing several people entering and exiting Haynes’ room during his stay stretching just over a week.
Shortly after he checked out, resort housekeeping staff discovered extensive damage to the room and property missing. The damage included a broken thermostat appearing to have been struck with a bat or similar item, curtain rods, curtains and window blinds torn down, holes in the entry door, marks in the entry door and walls appearing to be from someone throwing a knife, holes in the ceiling, and the smoke/CO 2 detector hard wired into the electrical service torn from the wall.
The list of missing items included bed pillows, comforter, bed skirt and numerous towels.
Several unsuccessful attempts were reportedly made for Haynes to return to the resort and talk with law enforcement.
Haynes has been charged with a felony count of first-degree criminal mischief, as well as a misdemeanor count of theft of property.
His bond was set at $2,500.
