A Fulton County man, 35-year-old Dustin Broughton, has been arrested and charged following a reported altercation in which his alleged to have choked his wife to the point she could not breath and threatened to kill her.
According to the probable cause affidavit filed Friday, Broughton’s wife told Fulton County law enforcement she was packing to leave due to ongoing domestic problems when her husband arrived home from work.
She said the incident began with verbal abuse, and then Broughton blocked her from leaving the bedroom, telling her she was not going anywhere. She said she asked repeatedly to leave, but he denied her requests.
After a while, Broughton moved away from the bedroom door, and she was able to get to the kitchen door.
Broughton then reportedly moved toward his wife, grabbing her around the throat/neck, while stating he was going to kill her. The woman said he choked her to the point she could not breathe. As she fought back, she said she thought she was going to die.
Broughton allegedly began to hit the victim in the back, again saying he was going to kill her.
During the altercation, Broughton managed to get the keys from his wife, later dropping them, allowing her to retrieve them and flee to a friend’s house.
Broughton has been charged with felony counts of aggravated assault on a family or household member, kidnapping/false imprisonment with risk of serious injury and terroristic threatening.
His bond was set at $20,000, with a protection order having been filed against him.
