The Mountain Home City Council has approved an ordinance directing and ordering the removal or razing of yard structures at 1710 Lilac Lane. The action came Thursday evening.City Clerk Brian Plumee says the vote on approving the ordinance was 7-0, with council member Nancy Osmon absent.
The passage of the ordinance follows a group of neighbors appearing before the city council in July to express their dislike of a koi pond erected in the front lawn of the residence in the Southern Meadows subdivision.
The ordinance calls for the city to remove or raze structures that have become dilapidated, unsightly, unsafe, unsanitary, obnoxious or detrimental to the public welfare.
It goes on to read city officials have inspected the property on Lilac Lane and found consistently the yard structures/improvements are in a condition that are “unsafe and likely to entice, lure or otherwise attract small children and others” and result in harm to such individuals.
It notes the property is a breeding ground for insects, rodents and other animals. Further the unfinished landscaping is unsafe, unsanitary and detrimental to the health and welfare of the citizens of Mountain Home.
