Writing workshop set for Saturday

Evin Demirel, an Arkansas sports journalist, will hold a writing workshop at the Donald W. Reynolds Library Serving Baxter County Saturday afternoon from 1:00 until 3:30.Demirel’s workshop is titled “Writing Non-Fiction with a Journalistic Approach.” He will guide those in attendance through the writing process needed for feature writing, copywriting, blogging, promotional writing, press releases, reporting, public speaking, and research.Based in Arkansas, Evin writes about regional heritage, sports and race relations. He is a journalist and author of “African-American Athletes in Arkansas.” He has written for the New York Times, Slate, Arkansas Sports 360, Arkansas Life magazine, SLAM, ESPN.com and the Associated Press.

His work has also been featured on CBSSports.com and The Classical. Before focusing on sports, Demirel was the feature obituary writer for the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette. In 2010, he received a national award for feature obituary writing.

The Baxter County Library’s literary series has been developed to connect writers and readers to foster a love of literature and writing. The series, sponsored by the Friends of the Baxter County Library, feature authors, writing workshops, and special events.
