Friday basketball results include a few conference openers

In high school basketball Friday night, the Izard County boys mercy-ruled Omaha 64-33. The Cougars opened a 39-18 lead by half time. Justus Cooper paced the Cougars with 24 points and Coby Everett added 13 as the Izard County boys improve to 4-0 overall and 1-0 in the 1A-2 Conference.

The Izard County girls lost to Omaha 48-44. Bethany Simmons paced the Lady Cougars with 13 points and Abbi Marlin added 10 the Izard County falls to 3-1 and 0-1.

In the junior girl’s game, Izard County topped Omaha 32-29. Ava Lewis scored 10 points for the Lady Cougars.

Mammoth Spring split their games at home against Sloan-Hedrix. The Lead Bears improve to 2-0 with a 61-49 win. Stephanie Henry led the scoring with 21 points while Lauren Mitchell added 15 points.

In the boy’s game, Sloan-Hendrix defeated Mammoth Spring 61-51. The Bears for 17 points from Jacob Golden, 14 from Alex Mero and Zack Flynn added 10 points.
