More than 6,000 founds of personal documents, potentially posting a danger of identity theft, were destroyed during a free shred-a-thon hosted by Arvest Bank and Shred-It for the Mountain Home community earlier this month.
Residents who participated in the event contributed a total of $564 to local nonprofit organization Into the Light. The nonprofit provides refuge and support services to minors who are victims of sex trafficking. The organization also educates minors and communities on the traps associated with human trafficking, in addition to providing 24-hour crisis response.
Sally Gilbert, Market President of Arvest Bank in Mountain Home, says human trafficking and identity theft are both problems that have evolved into epidemics in communities of all sizes, so an effort was made to work against both of these issues right here at home.
Arvest associates also grilled hot dogs for those who took part in the shredding event, and KTLO broadcasted live from the event, giving listeners a chance to win prizes from the stations treasure chest.
