LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) Arkansas first lady Susan Hutchinson recently unveiled renovations made to the decades-old governor’s mansion after the home received a nearly $817,000 overhaul.
The Arkansas Democrat-Gazette reports the Georgian Colonial-style mansion’s upgrades were recently completed after about two years of construction. The Arkansas Natural and Cultural Resources Council financed the improvements through a more than $1 million grant.
Gov. Asa Hutchinson says it’s important to preserve the mansion because it “evokes a sense of pride in our state.” Hutchinson says he and the first lady want to ensure the mansion is well-maintained as a historic site for generations.
Susan Hutchinson has said the property’s electrical and plumbing systems needed replacing. Roof tiles, gutters and heating and air units were also showing signs of age and damage.
