A Missouri man who was held at gunpoint by a business owner after he broke into the man’s establishment early this month entered a guilty plea to the charges against him and was given five years probation during a session of Baxter County Circuit Court Thursday.
Forty-five-year-old Christopher Mattson of Thornfield was in the process of burglarizing the Old School House Antique Mall in Midway in the early morning hours of Oct. 6th when an alarm went off after he kicked open a door.
According to Baxter County Sheriff John Montgomery, the alarm’s siren woke the storeowner. When the owner, who had armed himself with a handgun, encountered Mattson leaving the building, the Missouri man approached the owner and shoved him in the chest.
The owner told investigators he then fired a shot into the ground and held Mattson at gunpoint until deputies arrived.
Mattson was charged with commercial burglary and third-degree assault.
