
The Arkansas Department of Education awarded almost $7 million to 175 public schools Monday through the Arkansas School Recognition Program, and 10 area school districts were included on the list.
The program provides awards to the top 10 percent of schools achieving high student performance on the state required assessments in third through tenth grades. Awards also are given to the top 10 percent of public schools achieving high student academic growth, which includes high school graduation rates where applicable. Awards were based on assessment information from the 2017-2018 school year and graduation rates from the 2016-2017 school year.
The lone school in Baxter County to be rewarded is in the Norfork School District. Arrie Goforth Elementary School received $10,362.22.
Money was also awarded to two campuses in the Ozark Mountain School District. Bruno-Pyatt was granted $9,816.84, and St. Joe was given $15,571.26.
Elsewhere, Salem Elementary School was awarded $90,253.80, and Izard County High School received $14,381.10. In the Melbourne School District, $41,258.88 went to the high school, and the elementary school received $22,509.32.
One school in the Searcy County School District also came away with reward money. Marshall Elementary School was granted $11,948.78.
Money also went to two high schools in the Mountain View School District. Rural Special received $11,207.34, and Timbo was awarded $4,313.46.
Four schools in the Harrison School District received reward money. Harrison Middle School was given $41,200.98, Forest Heights Elementary School was awarded $41,258.88, Skyline Heights Elementary School received $35,704.80, and Eagle Heights Elementary School was granted $15,273.72.
Elsewhere in Boone County, Lead Hill High School was given $16,067.16, Valley Springs Middle School was awarded $41,206.52, and Valley Springs Elementary School received $32,431.86.
Schools receiving recognition funds are required to establish a committee to determine how to use the funds. Funds must be used for faculty and staff bonuses, educational equipment and materials, or personnel to assist with improving or maintaining student performance. The committee will include the principal, a teacher and a parent representative.
