Apple Corps Ltd./Capitol/UMeWith the release of the 50th anniversary reissues of The Beatles‘ self-titled 1968 album, a.k.a. “The White Album,” less than two weeks away, a newly created animated video for the song “Glass Onion” has premiered exclusively on Apple Music.
The clip brings to life the pull-out poster that was packaged with the original two-LP set. The poster featured a collage of photos and drawings provided by all four members of the group, which was then put together by art director Richard Hamilton with help from Paul McCartney. The video includes rare photos and footage of The Beatles.
Among the video’s many highlights is an animated segment showing John Lennon‘s nude doodle of himself and Yoko Ono running away from a pencil with an American flag design which is trying to erase the drawings — an obvious reference to the censorship the couple faced from the U.S. government.
In another part of the clip, the Yellow Submarine movie character Jeremy Hillary Boob emerges from a splotch of yellow paint.
You also can watch a preview of the video on The Beatles’ official Facebook page.
As previously reported, the 50th anniversary reissues of “The White Album” will be released on Friday, November 9, and will include a super-deluxe box set containing a new stereo mix of the record, 50 studio session outtakes, 27 raw recordings known “The Esher Demos,” a Blu-ray audio disc, a 168-page hardback book and more.
