A Harrison man is accused of stealing items from multiple vehicles in Mountain Home. According to a Mountain Home Police arrest affidavit, 27-year-old Anthony Honings was booked early Saturday morning on multiple theft and drug charges.

An officer observed a subject in a vehicle belonging to Lakeview Auto Sales around 12:20. He made contact with the subject, identified as Honings, who said he was looking at buying the truck. The officer says he could smell the odor of intoxicants. Honings admitted he had been drinking and provided a breath sample at .12. The officer detained Honings and noticed damage inside the truck upon inspection. The rear view mirror and driver’s side visor were removed and located in Honings’ vehicle parked behind the truck.

Officers later discovered Honings had allegedly entered another truck on the lot and stolen some of its items as well. They also found inside Honings’ vehicle a baggie containing 7.4 grams of suspected marijuana, a metal drug pipe and numerous items related to telecommunications and electrical work normally used in commercial work. Honings reportedly had several items in the trunk to the point the lid would not close, and there was only enough room for him to operate the vehicle.

Honings agreed to talk with authorities after being read his rights. He said he had just got off work and consumed some alcoholic drinks at a local bar. When asked about the stolen property in his vehicle, Honings responded, “I gotta do what I gotta do.” He said he couldn’t remember where the stolen property came from.

On Monday, the Mountain Home Police Department received a report of a theft occurring at Kent Chevrolet-Cadillac. The victim said he brought his van to the dealership Friday for service work. He picked up the van Monday and noticed the back doors were open, and several items were missing including tools, fiber wire, copper wire, a lineman belt and accessories. The victim identified all of his stolen items at the police station, and they were all in Honings’ vehicle when he was arrested.

Honings was charged with three felony counts each of breaking or entering and theft of property, two misdemeanor counts of criminal mischief and a misdemeanor count of possession of a controlled substance. He was released late Saturday night after posting a bond of $5,000.
