The county-wide races in Izard County were dominated by the Republican Party.
Eric Smith handily won the county judge’s race with 75 percent of the votes. The other 25 percent went to Democrat Warren Anthony.
Izard County Chief Deputy Earnie Blackley will be sworn in as the new sheriff in 2019. The Republican garnered 78 percent of the votes to defeat Democrat Rick Kimble with 22 percent.
The county collector’s race was not as lopsided, but it was another win for the Republicans. Paul D. Womack finished with 52 percent of the votes to best Democrat Marilyn A. Downing with 48 percent.
Walter R. Hagan was another victorius Republican as he will take his seat on the Izard County Quorum Court. Hagan ended up with 62 percent of the tally to be selected the Justice of the Peace for District 2. Democrat Thomas W. Rushing had 38 percent.
Hagan will be joined on the court by fellow Republican Blake Johnson. Johnson won the JP District 7 seat with 72 percent of the votes. Johnson defeated Democrat Brian Biard who garnered 28 percent.
The Democrats’ lone victory in Izard County was the JP District 4 race. Willie Moser got 56 percent of the votes over Republican Michelle Graetz with 44 percent.
The other JP race in Izard County will go to a runoff. Republican John Walker ended up with 45 percent of the votes, and he’ll face independent Randy “Hank” Sherrell for District 3 who captured 33 percent. Democrat Jared Johnson was eliminated with 22 percent.
Donnie Tate was elected Izard County constable with 69 percent of the votes. Tate’s opponent, George F. Whitfield, finished with 31 percent.
Izard County also had several city races on Tuesday.
Calico Rock will have a new mayor after the challenger beat the incumbent. Greg Hamby scored 53 percent of the votes to unseat Ronald Guthrie with 47 percent.
Another Calico Rock incumbent was also defeated. Howard Jeffrey finished with 72 percent of the votes to beat Ward 2, Position 2 alderman Leon Cheatham with 28 percent.
Steven Lively won the race for Ward 1, Position 1 with 53 percent of the tally. Cynthinia Lee Wildhagen garnered 47 percent.
Jim King was easily selected to Ward 4, Position 2 with 70 percent of the votes. King defeated Fred Blickle who captured 30 percent.
Pineville’s mayor was able to retain his seat. Joe Stephen won with 59 percent of the votes over Sharon K. Sanders with 41 percent.
Douglas Yancey was elected the mayor of Oxford with 68 percent of the votes. Yancey toppled Billy Ray Harris with 32 percent.
Horseshoe Bend elected Craig M. Huckaby as its mayor. Huckaby garnered 60 percent of the votes to beat Marty McKnight with 40 percent.
Horseshoe Bend will have a new alderman for Ward 3, Position 1. Challenger George Williamson secured 71 percent of the votes to unseat incumbent Og Minze with 29 percent.
The lone city race in Melbourne went to the incumbent. Mike Cone will remain the Ward 4, Position 2 alderman after getting 56 percent of the votes. Challenger Sonia Blankenship ended up with 44 percent.
