Mountain Home resident Sam Rhoades has received the Lugean Chilcote award from the Arkansas Community Foundation. Rhoades was among the founding board members of the Twin Lakes Community Foundation.

Gwen Khayat, executive director of the Twin Lakes Community Foundation, says the award recognizes individuals who have shown outstanding service to the community foundation and to the state.

Khayat says in 2002 when the local office was in its beginning stages, Rhoades recruited Estella Tullgren as executive director and invested a large amount of his time traveling to the central office headquartered in Little Rock. She says as he has continued to give his time, talent and treasure throughout the years, Rhoades inspires others around him to do the same.

Tullgren, who now serves on the board of directors for both the local office and the statewide organization, says to this day, Rhoades gives the financial report at the Twin Lakes Community Foundation board meetings. He helps hold the group together.

She says he saw the community foundation was a perfect fit in the Mountain Home community to help more individuals become more philanthropic.
Rhoades served as the Twin Lakes Community Foundation’s first president and led a group of board members to raise money to receive matching funds from the Walton Foundation.

The Twin Lakes Community Foundation has grown from an original donation of $50,000 to assets of more than $8.3 million today.
