
There was plenty of basketball Friday with several teams in tournament action.
Flippin’s girls were not fortunate in the semifinals of the Equity Bank Bev Stone Border Classic at Omaha. The Lady Bobcats fell to the host Lady Eagles 56-32.
Flippin’s opponent in the third place game will be Western Grove. Lead Hill defeated the Lady Warriors 41-34.
Flippin did not fare any better on the boys’ side. The Bobcats lost to Western Grove by a score of 82-64.
Omaha was able to advance to the boys’ championship game. The Eagles invoked the mercy rule by routing Kingston 83-53.
A pair of local girls’ teams got beat Thursday in the Fordland Invitational Tournament. Lutie fell to Galena 71-25, and Dora lost to the host Lady Eagles 68-49.
Dora’s boys continued their winning ways in the River Country Chevrolet Classic at Thayer. The Falcons topped Willow Springs 59-36.
The Izard County boys suffered their first loss of the season as they began the Barry Pruitt Hurricane Classic at Jonesboro. The Cougars were down by three points to the defending Class 7A state champions with four minutes left, but North Little Rock pulled away for the 75-58. Justus Cooper paced Izard County with 22 points and 13 rebounds, Coby Everett finished with 18 points, and Caleb Faulkner chipped in 12 points. Izard County drops to 12-1, and they’ll meet Pine Bluff Friday in the consolation bracket.
Bakersfield’s boys had a tough road trip as they went to Forsyth. The Lions were edged out by Riverview Christian 65-63.
Gainesville’s high school teams got swept at Koshkonong. The Lady Bulldogs fell to the Lady Jays 34-27. Gainesville later lost the boys’ game 65-55.
Mountain Home’s freshmen squads were able to sweep West Memphis West at home.
The Junior Bombers took the boys’ game 43-26 over the Blue Imps. Mountain Home was led by Cooper Oxford with ten points. The Junior Bombers improve to 3-5 on the year, and they’ll travel to Wynne on Tuesday.
Mountain Home began the night by winning the girls’ contest 39-31. Abigail was the Junior Lady Bombers’ top scorer with 11 points. Mountain Home is now 3-3 overall and 1-0 in the 5A-East.
