The winter weather moving into the area late Friday night will not affect the 47th Annual Christmas Tree and Baxter County Courthouse Lighting or the Mountain Home Area Chamber of Commerce Christmas Parade. Both events will be held with the tree lighting at 5:30 and the parade at 6:00.
The tree lighting will feature Baxter County Judge Mickey Pendergrass, who will turn on the lights; the Mountain Home Bomber Band Brass Ensemble; Heather Grace Spencer who will sing; Mary Carol Pederson, the co-founder of The Call, who will give the Christmas message; and pastor Vince Daniel who will lead the prayer. The event begins at 5:30 and will be broadcast on KTLO-FM.
The Christmas Parade will then start at 6:00. The parade route begins on Hospital Drive, then south on Highway 5 to Main Street, then south on Main Street to 9th Street. Those who are in the parade are reminded to enter the staging area from West Road and Buttercup Drive. Floats will line up at the corner of Buttercup and Burnett Drive where judging will be done before the parade, fire trucks and emergency vehicles line up on Medical Plaza, marching bands and walkers line up at the First Security Bank parking lot at the corner of Hospital Drive and Highway 5 North, horses wait in the field across from Cardiovascular Associates on Buttercup and other vehicles assemble at the corner of Burnett Drive and Beard Street.
Anyone who would like to participate in the parade or who has questions can contact Angela Broome at the chamber at 870-425-5111.
