RhinoThe Monkees have debuted a new video promoting their first-ever holiday album, Christmas Party  The animated clip is for their version of Mel Torme‘s “The Christmas Song.”

The song is sung by Mike Nesmith, and produced by his son Christian.

The video features animated versions of the four Monkees as they looked during the 1960s, and shows them taking a “Tunnel of Love”-style boat ride through a Monkees-themed winter wonderland.

As the clip begins, we see Mike and Micky Dolenz chatting as they sit next to each other on the boat.

“Well, Mick, here we are. It’s that time of year again,” says Nesmith, to which Dolenz responds, “Yeah. You know, nothing says ‘Merry Christmas’ like a boat ride in 105-degree weather in sunny Southern California.”

The ride then begins, as the boat floats through various scenarios featuring the band members. We first see the guys caroling on a snowy street corner.  Then we move indoors, where Mike, Mick and Peter Tork are eating a giant submarine sandwich together while a young lady holds some mistletoe over the late Davy Jones‘ head.

In the next scene, we’re transported to the North Pole, where Santa Claus is getting his sleigh ready as The Monkees, dressed as elves, prepare toys for the jolly man’s journey. We also travel through a tunnel where we see kaleidoscopic projections and the band members appear as wind-up toys and wooden soldiers.

After the ride ends, Micky jokes with Mike that he wished he’d had time to buy his band mates Christmas presents — then surprises Nesmith with a guitar wrapped in Monkees wrapping paper.
