Bakersfield teams finish 2nd in Bradleyville tourney

The Bakersfield High School basketball teams both ended up as runners-up in the Bradleyville Invitational Tournament on Friday after getting swept by the host teams. The Lady Lions fell to the Lady Eagles 58-26, and Bakersfield’s boys also lost to Bradleyville 75-51. In addition, Lutie’s boys defeated Gloria Deo Academy 67-50.

Three girls’ teams competed Friday in the NEA Basketball Tournament.
Viola’s game went to overtime at First National Bank Arena in Jonesboro, but the Lady Longhorns came up short as they lost to Marmaduke 74-67. Sammy McCandlis led Viola with 24 points, Keyaira Moore scored 17, and Lindsey Browning added 14.
Mammoth Spring was eliminated at Brookland High School after falling to Izard County 62-49. The Lady Bears were led by Stephine Henry with 25 points, and Terra Godwin had 14. For the Lady Cougars, Maura Thompson and Ashlynn Bratcher each finished with 16 points, and Bethany Simmons chipped in 12. Mammoth Spring falls to 9-9 on the season. Izard County improves to 13-6, and they’ll meet Tuckerman in the consolation finals Thursday at Brookland.
