MH gets swept by Jonesboro in conference openers

Conference play began on a rough note for the Mountain Home High School basketball teams Friday as they were swept at home by Jonesboro.

The Lady Bombers began the evening by falling to the Lady Hurricane 40-30. Mountain Home had the lead at the end of the first quarter, but they were outscored 14-5 in the second period. Jonesboro inched further away in the third quarter mainly on the inside play of Kianna Hardaway, and they went on to win by ten.
Payton Huskey led the Lady Bombers with 12 points. For the Lady Hurricane, Destiny Salary scored 16 points, and Hardaway and Kayla Mitchell added ten points each.
Mountain Home falls to 8-6 on the season and 0-1 in the 5A-East. Jonesboro improves to 10-4 and 1-0.

The Bomber boys wrapped up the evening with a 56-42 loss to the Golden Hurricane. Jonesboro had 12 points from behind the arc in the first half to help them build a 13-point advantage by the end of the first half. The two teams played fairly even in the second half as the Hurricane posted the 14-point victory.
Mountain Home was led by Wyatt Gilbert with 17 points, and Mat Jones chipped in ten. For Jonesboro, Shamari Milton had 17 points off the bench, Mercedes Leech finished with 14, and Lamar Washington ended up with ten.
The Bombers drop to 5-8 on the year and 0-1 in the league. Jonesboro is now 10-4 and 1-0.

Mountain Home will wrap up its current home stand Tuesday when they meet Greene County Tech.
