A Norfork woman, 57-year-old Carol Boviall, is facing charges in connection with an incident in November in which her vehicle struck two teens waiting for a school bus.

Baxter County Sheriff John Montgomery says deputies responded to the intersection of Third and Main streets in Norfork after receiving a call on the morning of Nov. 18th advising a vehicle backing up had hit some children causing injuries.

Upon arrival, officers found two teenagers, a 15-year-old male and a 13-year-old female, had been struck by an SUV driven by Boviall. Both children required emergency medical care.

According to a witness, Boviall had been involved in some kind of argument at a nearby house. The witness said Boviall got into her vehicle and backed out quickly from the driveway onto Main Street, striking the two children who were waiting at a bus stop.

Evidence indicated the vehicle had traveled backward almost 53 feet before striking the children. A third child ran up to the window of Boviall’s vehicle urgently telling her to pull up because she had run over the other children and stopped, pinning the teens under the SUV.

Boviall consented to a blood draw to determine whether there were any controlled substances in her system. The blood draw was sent to the Arkansas State Crime Laboratory in Little Rock. The results indicated Boviall tested positive for methamphetamine in her system on the date of the incident.

The Norfork woman has been charged with two felony counts of first-degree battery, as well as a misdemeanor offense of driving while intoxicated, drugs, and a carless and prohibited driving violation.

Boviall was booked into the Baxter County Detention Center Thursday afternoon on a $20,000 bond and is set to appear in circuit court later this month.

The Norfork Police Department assisted Baxter County Sheriff’s officers with the arrest.
