Diary Records/Island RecordsFunk/soul legend Chaka Khan‘s first new studio album in 12 years, Hello Happiness, will be released on February 15. The seven-track collection boasts modern production while also showcasing retro soul and funk sounds.
Khan has released an official video for the album’s title track and latest single, which is described as a “tribute to the life-affirming power of music.” The clip is centered on a telephone booth at a seedy Los Angeles motel and involves a series of storylines that include an undercover detective, a crooked cop, a cheating husband, a pimp, a thief and more. Chaka also makes an appearance. You can watch the video now at her official YouTube channel.
Khan collaborated on the album with producer Switch and singer/songwriter Sarah Ruba Taylor, who initially sought out Chaka to deliver a guest contribution on their own project.
Hello Happiness will be released on CD, vinyl, cassette and digital formats. Those who pre-order the album will receive instant downloads of the title track and another song from the record, “Like Sugar,” which was first released as a single last year.
